"I've been thinking really hard about birthday gifts, and only one comes to mind. It's a gift my mom gave me when I turned 13 (yes - that was a LONG time ago)! She gave me a little pouch with makeup in it. I think the reason it stands out is because that was a way for her to be close to me and understand the age I was at and the fact that her little girl was growing up. It's funny the things that leave an imprint in our memories."
